A Logistics Bridge: Paraguay’s Vision For Regional Connectivity
Paraguay is set to position itself as a key regional logistics hub by capitalising on its strategic location and modernising its transportation infrastructure.
The Vice Minister of Trade and Services recently announced a series of initiatives aimed at improving the country’s connectivity and trade efficiency.
A major project involves the modernisation of the Paraguay-Paraná waterway, which will significantly enhance trade links between Bolivia and Brazil’s Mato Grosso regions. This upgrade promises to reduce cargo transfer times by up to 40%, streamlining the movement of goods within the region.
Additionally, plans for a new cargo terminal at Silvio Pettirossi Airport aim to bolster international freight handling, while regional railway projects are also being explored to link Encarnación with export ports in Uruguay.
According to the Vice Minister, “We are building the conditions for Paraguay to be a regional logistics bridge, reducing cargo transfer times to markets such as Southeast Asia by up to 40%. Our goal is to extend logistics beyond Asunción.”
