As another World Cup comes to an end, its Argentina that lift the trophy following a dramatic win over previous winners France in the final. However, the bigger news in the Envío office was that Josh Sweeney took the honours in our South American World Cup sweepstake.
Just four weeks ago Josh was seen crying in his tea after Argentina lost their opening game against Saudi Arabia, a far cry from what was to unfold in Doha on Sunday night.
For us, as the Latin American specialists, it was fantastic to see Messi lead his team to a much deserved victory, and bring the cup back to South America for the first time in 20 years.
Leading 2-0, with France not having an attempt at goal until their successful penalty in the 80th minute, Argentina looked comfortably set and few would have predicted the drama that followed.
In truth, Josh was already safe as the Envío winner when Brazil went out in the quarter finals, so Argentina winning was a bonus to him. Below is how the competition played out for the Envío team.
Out At The Group Stages:
Sean Stokes – Ecuador
Mille Easton – Mexico
Peter Claus – Costa Rica
Bradley Allen – Uruguay
Out In The Round of 16:
Chris Gaduzo – Spain (We bent the rules for Chris and gave him Spain, as he was born in Gibraltar).
Out In The Quarter Finals:
Scott Easton – Brazil
Winning Finalist:
Josh Sweeney – Argentina
Congratulations to Argentina and of course to Josh!
