Brazilian Customs Entries Suspended Due To Strike
A strike in Brazil has led to the suspension of customs procedures for imports and exports until the 27th February, which has effectively brought the clearance and release of goods in the country to a standstill.
After the National Mobilization Command (CNM) could not reach agreement with the Brazilian government, the strike action came into effect on February 12th and impacts all non-essential goods.
Products like medicines and live cargo are exempt from the strike measures and are still being cleared and released, while general goods such as electronics, machinery, clothing and automobiles etc are becoming stuck at ports and airports.
The industrial action has already resulted in a build up of cargo and congestion across Brazil’s ocean and air freight terminals, which will undoubtedly lead to backlogs and further delays once the strike is over.
