Disruptions at UK Ports Impacting Container Transport

Ongoing disruptions at key UK ports, particularly London Gateway and Southampton, are causing significant delays in transport, affecting ocean freight services in and out of the country.

Hauliers are facing extended waiting times, caused by port congestion, equipment breakdowns, and even a recent power outage at London Gateway. The situation has created an increasingly difficult environment for hauliers, who are not only experiencing lengthy delays but also incurring higher operational costs

As a result, a number of transport providers have informed us that port congestion surcharges are likely to be applied to any shipments affected by delays, particularly those passing through London Gateway, to cover the increased costs that are being incurred. Port conditions around the UK are being closely monitored by the Envío team, and any surcharges will be communicated to affected customers at the time of shipment.

Congestion has emerged as a global challenge, as ports struggle to effectively manage Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs), which suggests that there is not an easy fix to the ongoing issue. Numerous key ports and hubs in Europe, Asia, Latin and North America, and Africa are reporting congestion delays,

Several factors are exacerbating this global phenomenon, including spikes in demand, labour disputes, extreme weather events, shortages of equipment, outdated infrastructure, limited storage capacity, and inconsistent sailing schedules.

We understand the impact this is having on businesses during this challenging period and remain committed to ensuring your shipments are handled as smoothly as possible under these difficult conditions. To discuss any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
