Explosion At CONTECAR Terminal In Cartagena
A sudden explosion at a warehouse in the Port of Cartagena, Colombia, could have an impact on local logistics during the coming weeks.
he explosion occurred on Saturday morning, 9th March 2024, at a freight warehouse in the “CONTECAR” terminal. Port workers fled the scene in panic after a loud bang was heard, followed by flames and black smoke rising into the sky.
While firefighters rushed to the scene, explosions continued for more than an hour afterwards due to the ferocity of the fire, and local residents reported seeing black material falling from the sky.
It is understood that a search and rescue operation has been ongoing since the incident. It is currently unknown whether the explosion has led to casualties, but local reports suggest that there were no fatalities.
The port itself has been slow to release news of the incident, and it is still unclear as to which goods have been affected.
While the port was evacuated immediately after the unfortunate event, we believe that port operations are now continuing slowly, with inevitable delays in devanning consolidation containers having an impact on the release of LCL cargoes currently.
